Hotel Parque do Rio is located on the Atlantic coast approximately 30 kilometres north of Oporto International Airport.
It is set in the pinewoods behind a long sandy beach backed by sand dunes.
The beach is superb with a long stretch of sand and few people. In the afternoons it is usual for the Portuguese Trade Winds to blow along the coast preventing the temperature rising too high.
There are some pleasant walks can be made through the woods and dunes and a walk along the narrow spit of land to the north is interesting. On one side is the sea and on the other the river runs parallel to the beach.
On the north side of the river is the old fishing village of Esposende, flanked by lush green pine forests with some fine old buildings and town squares. The ruins of an eighteenth century fort are now used as a lighthouse.
The estuary of the River Cavado, it is a popular with the Portuguese holiday makers in the summer months due to the area's excellent sandy beaches.
The Parque do Rio Inn has a total of thirty six bedrooms all with en suite bathroom. They have central heating, satellite TV and direct dial telephone and each room has a private balcony.
The restaurant specialises in a wide variety of local dishes. Snacks and drinks are served on the terrace during the summer months.
There are two outdoor swimming pools - one for adults and another for children. There is also a children's playground and a tennis court. Hotel Parque do Rio also offers conference facilities for up to 80 people with audio-visual equipment.
For golfing parties there are courses at Quinta da Barca, Estela and Ponte de Lima all within easy reach by car.
The coastal road towards Oporto has an interesting collection of fishermen's beach side restaurants which are well worth a visit.
There is a Casino approximately 10 kilometres away at Povoa do Varzim which has international shows, exhibitions and a restaurant.
