Hotel Pousada de Manteigas is situated on the top of the Estrela mountain range in Portugal and enjoys stunning views over the Zezere River Valley.

This is predominantly a sheep farming community and local fleeces are used to make a variety of woollen goods - a must in the snowy winter months.
You will also see Serra da Estrela puppies for sale. These cuddly balls of fluff grow into fierce looking sheep dogs.
To the north of Manteigas is the town of Gouveia.
It has some attractive buildings, and amazingly, has a museum of modern art - the museum de Abel Monta is named after a local artist who donated his collection of Portuguese art to the gallery.
