Estalagem do Vale is located in Sao Vicente in Sitio das Feiteiras, in the north of the island of Madeira. This area was very popular among foreign visitors from the second half of the 19th century onwards.
The Estalagem is nestled in a rural setting, and the hotel has emerged from the renovation and extension of an 18th century manor house with great historical value, while maintaining the shape of the original house.
In the 1950's many of the visitors to the north of the island were English. It was almost certainly during this period that the cricket pitch was constructed, a sport close to the heart of Englishmen. Today there is still an area connected to the property, commonly known as "croque", and the surroundings reveal much about the frequency and profile of the guests.
Tradition always maintained that the inn was held in high esteem by travellers in the north of the island and, today, the site is testimony to this fact.
Estalagem do Vale has a total of 41 bedrooms – one of them suitable for disabled guests, a restaurant, bar, cellar, games room, library, Internet area, children’s playground, indoor / outdoor swimming pool, mini-golf, croquet lawn, bowling green, sauna, Turkish bath, gym and Jacuzzi.
One of the inn’s main features is its surrounding green areas. It is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Madeira. From one of the hotel’s belvederes, you can appreciate the full splendour of the S. Vicente valley and the deep blue shimmer of the north Atlantic, with all its magic and connection to the enormous mountain.
The sweeping horizons, magnificent southern exposure and surrounding scenery lend the area an unrivalled beauty and great sense of tranquillity.
The Vale forest is located in the area of "Laurissilva", which is a world heritage site due to the rare richness of its flora, from the Tertiary Age. Here, you can experience nature’s bounty through sounds, aromas and tastes.
The Estalagem do Vale is approximately 30 km from Funchal International Airport.
