The Inn, Estalagem dos Zimbros, is located in the area designated as the Arrabida Natural Park which protects the area from future development.
The inn is in a country area towards the lighthouse at Cabo Espichel and near to the long sandy Atlantic beach of Praia do Meco which stretches for miles.
A short drive away is the fishing village of Sesimbra which should not be missed.
The area has been inhabited since pre-historic times and in the seventeenth century a fort was constructed overlooking the town using the site of earlier fortifications.
Sesimbra has grown considerable in recent years due to the construction of the suspension bridge over the river at Lisbon. This made this area accessible to the population living on the north of the river. The village lies in a hollow facing south and protected from the northern trade winds by its hills.
In the middle 1950s it became famous for attracting the world famous of deep-sea fishing, particularly for tuna and swordfish. These fishes are served in the many restaurants that overlook the bay.
Small narrow steep streets lead down to its sandy beach.. Each morning, the local catch is laid out for inspection before the public auction.
The stiff climb from the centre of Sesimbra is worthwhile. Within the walls are a church and various ruins. A walk around the battlements gives amazing panoramas over the surrounding countryside and coastline.
To the east the nature reserve has resulted in an unspoiled area. Along the south facing coasts are many sandy coves and quiet waters suitable for young children.
There are many species of wild life but it is a of joy for geologists with many types of limestone and sandstone. These different types of rock have on them differing vegetation. This in turn causes a different habitat and different birds and animals within a small area.
The small hotel of Estalagem dos Zimbros has a total of thirty three bedrooms including two rooms for three persons. It also has two suites. All these bedrooms have a private bathroom and a private veranda.
All bedrooms have air conditioning, direct dial telephone and satellite TV.
The hotel restaurant specialises in serving a wide variety of fish and other local dishes as well as international cuisine. From the dining room there are beautiful views over the ocean and surrounding landscape.
In addition to the restaurant, there is a snack bar in the Inn.
The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, children's pool, games and TV room.
There are conference and banqueting facilities for up to 180 people. All the rooms are equipped with modern audio visual equipment and natural daylight.
Estalagem dos Zimbros is seven kilometres away from Sesimbra and about forty kilometres from Lisbon.
